A Bit About Our Design Process

We create what’s called a ‘master’ piece, usually from sculptable materials like metal clay or stoneware clay. Vincent likes to experiment using wood or metal materials as his master. Nooma is partial to clay, and fires her master pieces in a kiln. Once we have a good number of new designs or master pieces we place them into a mold and Vincent runs his machine which uses pressure and heat to transform the blank mold into one that has impressions of our master pieces. He then uses a process called spincasting to cast pewter into the mold, and finally, cleans up the pieces by clipping and filing so they can be ‘blackened’ with an oxidizer and go into a tumbler for the final finishing.
